Another Week Gone!

Time flies when your having this much fun. The rain did not stop for almost a week straight. We finished a roof last week on Wednesday and it has rained every day since. Today was the first of a few sunny days we are going to have this week. I got my truck stuck in the mud again on Saturday. It's been so wet that we haven't been able to do much work on the drive, not to mention I don't have the extra money to do it all at one time. We have to work in stages as we can afford it. Today we put a culvert in and some stone over it. I'm going to need a lot of stone. My neighbor Doug came over and spread the stone over the tile for me. Saturday, Randall and I went to the Albertville Air Show for a few hours. It was one of the most exciting things to watch. These pilots that fly these stunt planes are truly artists of the sky. They make these planes dance in the sky like butterflies. It was a cool way to spend an afternoon. I wish my wife and kids were here to enjoy it with me. I will see them this weekend when I return to Michigan for the holiday. So far, work has been steady. I could definitely take on more, and I am getting new calls every day and making new contacts. It's all good.

Goin' Fishin'!

For those of you that don't know much about Guntersville, Alabama, or more specifically Lake Guntersville, let me just say that fishing is HUGE here. The ESPN Bass Pro Tournament is here this weekend and it's cool to see all the pros from around the country here with their sweet bass boats all lettered up with sponsors. Lake Guntersville is the largest man made lake in the world. It connects in with the Tennessee River. It is one of the coolest lakes I've ever seen and I can see why it's loved by fishermen. There are so many places to launch your boat and so many places to check out on the water. If you live in Guntersville and don't fish, your in the minority. Catfish is also another big catch around here. Lots of places to get some catfish for dinner too. I got a picture of a buddy we met here and he invited me and Randall to come out on his boat to go fishin'. When we got ready to launch he wasn't sure if he could get both of us on it at the same time. So we had to take turns. Check it out.

We finished our very first job here this week. Here are some pics of the house we put a roof on.

Rain, Rain, Go Away...

It's been an interesting week filled with many ups and downs. I'm sitting here at McD's while we have another tornado warning in effect. I have been blessed with 3 roof jobs already in just over a week. Unfortunately we've had rain, a lot of rain, all but 2 days. Yesterday I started my very first job here and managed to finish the house and I was supposed to do the garage this morning but the thunderstorms started about 4 am and have not quit yet. Besides the rain, I made a clerical error when measuring the roof and realized yesterday that I am short. That's contracting, sometimes your up, sometimes your down. I was a little bummed to learn I just took a big hit in the pocketbook. I didn't go in the red on this one, but I will survive and move on. If there's one thing I've learned in this business is to take your licks and move forward. Dwelling on your mistakes never does any good. The day didn't end too badly, I got another call in the afternoon to go ahead with a roof I bid 10 days ago. So it's two steps forward, one step back. But hey, at least were moving in the right direction. I'll post some pics of us at the job in the next couple of days.

Me and Randall, this was taken on one of the two nice days.
